About

Rule & Field is a small editorial index. It lists eleven hotels, split into four categories: art, capsule, casino and ice.

The categories are deliberately narrow. Each one describes a single thing a building does to a stay. An art hotel puts its interiors in front of you. A capsule hotel shrinks the room to a bed. A casino hotel adds a gaming floor to a full resort. An ice hotel is made of frozen river water and has to be rebuilt.

How entries are written

Every entry is prose. There are no score bars, no star counts and no tables of amenities, because a hotel is easier to understand as a description than as a spreadsheet.

Before an entry goes up, its name, location and main features are checked against the hotel's own published information. If a detail cannot be confirmed, it stays out. If a listing has something unusual about it, such as a casino with no rooms on site, the entry says so in plain words.

What the site does not do

  • It does not take bookings or pass reservations on to anyone.
  • It does not publish prices, ratings or guest reviews.
  • It does not accept payment from hotels for inclusion or placement.

Who it is for

Travellers who already know the kind of stay they want and would like a short, careful list to start from. Use it to narrow things down, then go to the hotel directly for dates, rates and current details.
